What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine determines how and why illness occurs and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual.
Functional medicine is an individualised, patient-centred, science-based approach for addressing the underlying root cause of disease and promoting optimal health, wellbeing and wellness.  It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors.  This information is then used to direct personalised treatment plans that lead to improved patient wellbeing.

By addressing the root cause of disease, rather than symptoms, practitioners are able to understand the complexity of the patient’s complaint, and its interconnected nature in the body.  They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, Functional Medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual.

For example, one person suffering with with a bowel condition may have similar symptoms to the next person, but a completely different underlying cause for their problem.  Through conventional approaches, these two people would receive the same treatments.  Functional Medicine, however, gives understanding of the underlying root cause behind the problem, allowing us to tailor the treatment plan to exactly suit that patient and their individual condition.

Functional medicine not only helps to understand and address chronic health challenges and conditions, but it can also work to optimise and improve your general health and wellbeing by analysing where you body may be out of balance, deficient or toxic.  We can then redress these areas through natural and holistic approach utilising the very latest knowledge and techniques in the field.

I offer a very unique set of skills.  By combining my natural love and passion for health and wellness, my years of knowledge and experience, along with my skills and education in functional medicine and coaching, I can help in all areas of your life.  Particular attention is spent on lifestyle, diet and nutrition, mindfulness and meditation practices, supplement use, exercise, belief patterns and mind-set, sleep habits and relationships.

I have a very relaxed, personable approach to my clients.  I am friendly, understanding and respectful, whilst using my depth of knowledge and years of experience to help you achieve the level of health, wellbeing and quality of life you want and deserve.  My unique skill-set allows for a truly holistic, rounded, mind-body-soul healing framework.
